The candidate filing period for the May 2 elections has closed, and there are several contested races taking place in both the Katy and Fulshear areas.
On the ballot
The May ballot includes multiple positions on Katy ISD, Katy City Council and Fulshear City Council.

The in-person candidate filing period ended Feb. 13, though the deadline for the candidate write-in period is 5 p.m. Feb. 17, according to the Texas secretary of state office’s website.
What else?
Fulshear voters will also decide whether to increase the city’s general fund sales tax from 1% to 1.25% while reducing the city’s Economic Development Corp. A-Board sales tax from 0.5% to 0.25% during a May 2 special election.
The special election was approved in a 4-1 vote at a Feb. 3 City Council meeting, with District 5 council member Abhijeet Utturkar voting against.
If approved, the special election would shift sales tax from EDC-A to the general fund, rather than creating a Crime Control and Prevention District, which was suggested at a Jan. 20 meeting. The move would give the city more flexibility with tax revenue, Fulshear City Manager Zach Goodlander said.
Looking ahead
Residents wishing to participate in the election must register to vote by April 2. Early voting will be April 20-28, with election day May 2, according to the secretary of state's website.
