Three positions are up for election this November on the Lone Star College board of trustees. As of Aug. 15, four candidates have filed for the three open seats.

Lone Star College professor Alton Smith is the only candidate so far who has filed to run for Position 3. Smith teaches an introductory college success course for first-year students.

Art Murillo, senior community outreach representative for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, is the only candidate filed to run for Position 4. Murillo also serves on the board of the Houston Intercontinental Chamber of Commerce.

Two candidates have filed to run for Position 9. Lamar Casparis, a CPA with Fitts Roberts & Co., has been involved with LSCS in the past, having served on the Citizens Facilities Review Committee for the 2013 bond referendum. Casparis has also served as the chairman of the Tomball Chamber of Commerce.

Dominic Bongiorni, a retired LSC professor, also filed for Position 9. Bongiorni taught several courses and served as the chair of the Speech Department.

None of the board's incumbents—Stephanie Marquard, Robert J. Adam and Priscilla Kelly—had filed to run as of Aug. 15, but interested candidates had until 5 p.m. Aug. 18 to file. Election Day is Nov. 4.
