Two widening projects are underway in Magnolia along FM 1488, while a third project is anticipated to begin this spring to add a raised median east of Magnolia.

Eastern FM 1488 widening

The two-lane portion of FM 1488 between FM 1774 in Magnolia and west of FM 149 will be widened to four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane. According to a Feb. 1 update by the Texas Department of Transportation, the James Construction Group started the project in June. It is 18% complete. Construction is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2025.

Western FM 1488 widening

TxDOT is also continuing a project west of the city of Magnolia to widen FM 1488 from two to four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane. The project spans from the Waller County line near Joseph Road and FM 1774 in Magnolia, and was 57% complete as of a Feb. 1 update from TxDOT.

Timeline: November 2020-third quarter 2023

FM 1488 median addition

TxDOT's project to add a raised median along FM 1488 in the Magnolia area between Mostyn Drive and I-45 continues to be pushed back with a tentative start date in the first quarter of 2023, according to a Feb. 1 update from TxDOT. TxDOT officials previously said the project has hit utility delays.
