Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley said Precinct 2 will begin construction on three different roads this summer with funds from the Hwy. 249 toll road in Magnolia, which opened in spring 2020.
The Decker Prairie-Rosehill Road and Hardin Store Road intersection near the Hwy. 249 toll road will be updated with widening and straightening along with widening the roads in both directions, according to Riley. The precinct hired an engineering firm to work on design and is acquiring the right-of-way.
Riley said the Decker Prairie-Rosehill Road and Hardin Store Road project will be funded by toll road revenue, and the precinct is anticipating it will be ready to bid by the middle of summer. The cost and specific construction timeline is TBD.
The precinct is also extending FM 149 at Jackson Road directly to Hwy. 249, north of Magnolia, Riley said. The precinct hired an engineering firm to complete the preliminary engineering, alignment and environmental design stages and will be completely funded by toll revenue. Precinct officials also did not have a cost to share for extending FM 149 before publication.
The precinct is also in negotiations with developers on extending Woodtrace Boulevard from Hwy. 249 to Dobbin-Huffsmith Road, according to Riley. The precinct has plans to extend Woodtrace Boulevard to FM 2978, Community Impact Newspaper previously reported. The cost for this section is to be determined, but the first segment funded by the Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District is $8 million, according to previous reporting.
Riley said the right-of-way has been cleared, and the precinct is developing final construction plans with an anticipated start of the end of summer. This project is also completely funded by toll revenue.
“The toll road [Hwy. 249] is here less than three years, and we’ve already got major projects that we’re going to be able to fund with money that the road has generated,” Riley said.
