Montgomery County commissioners will discuss temporary office and courtroom operations for the 523rd District Court among several items slated on the Sept. 17 agenda.
Revisions to several amendments to the county's Drainage Criteria Manual and the Thoroughfare Plan will also be reviewed as commissioners revisit conversations surrounding drainage and mobility improvement.

On Aug. 26, county commissioners voted to create a larger district court, the 523rd District Court, due to growing caseloads and overcrowding at the county jail. The new court will be funded in the county’s fiscal year 2026-27 budget.
Community Impact previously reported county staff estimated that the annual operating cost, including the district attorney’s office, county clerk and court staff positions, would total around $1.5 million.

Also on the agenda, commissioners will review amendments to the Thoroughfare Plan, a countywide transportation roadmap. The goal of the study is to examine corridors across the county to develop a plan of how the county can program and deliver future projects, according to agenda documents.

The county will also discuss the ongoing project to connect David Memorial Drive to Hwy. 242.
During an April 23 meeting, an interlocal agreement was approved amid the next phase of the David Memorial Drive extension as the county builds the last roughly 1,500 feet of roadway from the Conroe city limits to Hwy. 242. The road is located partially in Shenandoah and also in the unincorporated area of Montgomery County. The agreement was created to help improve mobility and traffic flow.
