All 120 Tomball first responders—police, fire and emergency medical services—will receive home-security cameras on Nov. 29 in a donation from State Farm as part of the Protect the Protectors campaign, according to a press release.

State Farm and Canary, a home-security device company, partnered three years ago for this campaign and have donated more than 10,000 security cameras to first responders, including those at the DART Police Department in Dallas and Frisco Police Department.

"Tomball first responders were nominated by our local agent Scott Wiley," Gina Wilken, State Farm public affairs specialist, said in an email. "He has a personal relationship with city officials and when he heard about the program, he nominated the city."

The Canary device monitors air quality, humidity and temperature inside the home, and notifies the user of any changes, Wilken said. She said it also has a high-definition camera for 24/7 viewing as well as a microphone for conversation, which allows the user to call 911 directly from the Canary app.

"It helps give [first responders] peace of mind when they are away from their families," she said. "The ability check in on your family when working a 24-48 hour schedule is reassuring and helps them stay connected to their families."

The donation ceremony will take place at the Tomball Public Works Building, 501 James St., Tomball, at 10 a.m. on Nov. 29.
