The candidate filing period for the May 6 elections in Tomball and Magnolia opened Wednesday, Jan. 18, according to election information. City council and school board positions are up for election this year in the area.
The last day to file for the May 6 elections is Friday, Feb. 17.
In Tomball, two City Council positions are up for election—Position 1 and Position 5. Position 1 is held by Mayor Pro Tem John Ford, who was first elected in May 2017 and is serving his second term. Position 5 is held by Randy Parr, who was elected last May to serve out the remainder of Mayor Lori Klein Quinn’s council term.
In Magnolia, three City Council positions are up for election—Position 1, Position 2 and Position 3. Position 1 is held by Daniel Miller, while Position 2 is held by Matthew “Doc” Dantzer, who was elected in May 2019. Mayor Pro Tem Richard Carby serves in Position 3 after being appointed and then elected to the seat in 2013.
While Tomball ISD’s board of trustees has no positions being up for election, Magnolia ISD’s board of trustees has two positions up for election—Position 4 and Position 5. Position 4 is held by Jay Michals, who was appointed to carry out the rest of Kristi Baker's term after her resignation during a Nov. 14, 2022, school board meeting, Community Impact previously reported. Position 5 is being held by Joe Duncan who was elected in 2014.
Those wishing to file as a candidate in the May 6 elections can obtain an application from the Texas Secretary of State’s website and file it with the respective city secretaries or at the Magnolia ISD administration building located on Nichols Sawmill Road.
