With all 52 precincts reporting in Montgomery County, both incumbents held their positions in the May 7 Magnolia City Council race.

Incumbent Brenda Hoppe won the race for Magnolia City Council Position 4, according to unofficial results from Montgomery County. Hoppe received 52.54% of votes, totaling 93 votes, while challenger Frank M. Parker III received 84 votes.

Hoppe could not be reached for comment on election night.

Incumbent Jack Lee Huitt Jr. won the Position 5 race, according to unofficial results. Huitt received 57.83% of votes, totaling 96, while challenger Cathy Yowell received 70 votes.


"I'm looking forward to serving the people of Magnolia to help them grow and to the best I can. I'm glad everyone voted for me, and I’ll represent everybody to the best of my ability," Huitt Jr. said in a phone interview on election night.

Following the release of early voting totals, one incumbent has taken a narrow early lead in the May 7 Magnolia City Council race while a second is tied with her opponent.

Position 4 Incumbent Brenda Hoppe and her challenger Frank M. Parker III are tied each with 63 votes.


Hoppe has served on City Council for 8 years and is a retired Magnolia school teacher and payroll administrator. Parker previously served as mayor and on City Council, and is an environmental engineer and business owner.

Position 5 Incumbent Jack Lee Huitt, Jr. has an early lead with 53.39% of votes, or 63 votes, while his challenger Cathy Yowell has 46.61%, receiving 55 votes.

Huitt has served on City Council and is an HOA board member and purchasing/shipping and receiving manager. Yowell has served on the board of adjustments and is a retired accountant.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
