West Elementary School—Tomball ISD’s 12th elementary school—is nearly complete, district leaders said during a ribbon-cutting July 29, and will welcome students for the first day of school Aug. 13.

West Elementary School is funded by the district’s $494.46 million bond—approved by voters in 2021, as previously reported by Community Impact. The project’s $33.37 million construction bid was approved in April 2023.

The campus will serve students in pre-K through fourth grade, according to a July 29 news release from TISD.

“This is a beautiful space where our youngest learners will come for the beginning of their formal education and experience our destination district for the very first time,” Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said via the news release.

The school will be led by Chad Schmidt—formerly the Tomball Elementary School principal—who will become West Elementary’s principal when it opens for the 2024-25 school year.

The 205-acre Juergen Road complex, which will house West Elementary, West Intermediate and West High schools, is part of TISD’s 2021 bond. The district broke ground on the property last October.

“Thank you to all our partners, both internal and external, that have helped complete the first building on the West Complex,” TISD board President John McStravick said via the release. “We have had this property in the inventory for quite some time, and it is great to see us starting to utilize this land for its purpose, which is to educate the students of our district.”

West Elementary is located at 18444 Cypress Heights Drive, Cypress.
