On May 1, Magnolia ISD held a special event for outgoing Superintendent Todd Stephens, who is retiring after being in the position since 2009.

The details

The Happy Trails event included remarks from Jason Bullock, who was named the lone superintendent finalist; Magnolia ISD board trustees Dacia Owens and Stacia Norris; Magnolia Education Foundation President Tina Messina; and board President Gary Blizzard.

During the event, the MEF announced the Dr. Todd Stephens Civic Service Scholarship in his honor.

"One of the things Dr. Stephens takes pride in is being a social studies teacher and talking to kids about civic responsibilities," Bullock said. "That is one of the things he has hammered them about to expose them to the role that we should play as good citizens and having a voice in our local government."

What else?

With the years that Stephens has been with the MISD, district leadership has also decided to rename Alpha Academy the Dr. Todd Stephens Academy as he was one who "made it happen," Blizzard said.

"At the next board meeting, we are going to take a vote to rename the academy so it lives like that forever," Blizzard said.
