During its April 15 meeting, the Magnolia ISD board of trustees approved naming Jason Bullock as the lone superintendent finalist, according to an April 16 news release.

The details

Bullock will replace outgoing Superintendent Todd Stephens, who announced his retirement in late March after serving since 2009.

“I am incredibly honored to be chosen as [the] lone finalist for the superintendent position here in Magnolia ISD,” Bullock said via news release. “This is a special community filled with great people. I look forward to continuing to work with our board as we strive to be the best district in the state of Texas.”

Bullock has served as the deputy superintendent in MISD since 2020 after joining the district as assistant superintendent for administration in 2012. Over that time, Bullock’s responsibilities have included hiring and supervising campus and district administrators, district policy development, and coordinating major district initiatives, according to the news release.

“Selecting Dr. Bullock as our lone finalist is the right choice," board President Gary Blizzard said via news release. "He wants to continue to make an impact in the Magnolia community and will keep the main thing—our students—the main thing. We are excited to have him here in MISD."

Prior to working at MISD, Bullock worked at Temple ISD, serving in positions including history teacher, department chair, academic coordinator, principal, and assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, according to the news release. He also served as an adjunct history professor at Central Texas College and Amberton University.

What's next

In compliance with state law, there will be a 21-day waiting period before the board can vote to offer Bullock a contract, according to the news release. Bullock will transition into the superintendent role over the summer.
