The 1,400-acre property purchased by Johnson Development in November, located in Magnolia, will be named Kresston, according to a July 28 news release from the development.

In memory of Johnson Development’s founder, Larry Johnson, who passed away in January 2022, the community has been named Kresston after the town where Johnson grew up. Johnson grew up in Kress, a small town in Swisher County, located in the Panhandle region of Texas, according to the release.

“Naming a residential community is rarely easy,” said Virgil Yoakum, senior vice president and general manager of Kresston, in the release. “Being the first community we’ve named since Larry’s passing—we knew we wanted to do something to add to his legacy.”

Kresston will be near the intersection of Hwy. 249 and FM 1486 and is expected to feature up to 3,700 homes, with a mix of single-family homes and townhomes. A new Magnolia ISD school will be built in the community, according to the release.

Builders anticipate to receive lots by late 2024, according to previous reporting.
