The National Day of Prayer Task Force will celebrate the 66th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 4. The nation-wide observance was created in 1952 by the U.S. Congress and has been celebrated annually on the first Thursday of May since 1988, according to the task force. For community members in the Greater Houston area, a variety of prayer events is planned throughout the region.

Conroe

6:30-8:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, 100 Mosswood Drive, Conroe The event features a time of prayer and worship with community members and local officials from across the North Houston region.

Cypress

Humble

Noon-1 p.m. at Houston City Hall, 901 Bagby Street, Houston. www.ksbj.org  Christian radio station KSBJ invites pastors, government leaders, local business leaders and community members to gather on the steps of City Hall to worship and pray. The event also features prayer stations and a live broadcast of The Midday Show. Noon-1 p.m. at Copperfield Church, 8350 Hwy. 6, Houston. www.copperfieldchurch.com The event features prayer and lunch.

Katy

7 p.m. at The Merrell Center, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy. www.katyprays.org The event features live music by Philips, Craig, & Dean as well as various churches from the west Houston region. The National Day of Prayer event kicks off 50 hours of non-stop prayer as part of the Fire on the Altar event held at The Epicentre, located at 2655 S. Mason Road, Katy.

Magnolia

6:30-8:30 p.m. at Magnolia West High School Auditorium, 42202 FM 1774, Magnolia The event features prayer and worship.

Missouri City

10 a.m. at Missouri City Hall, 1522 Texas Parkway, Missouri City. www.missouricitytx.gov The event invites community members to meet on the steps of City Hall.

Pearland

7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. at the Pearland ISD administration building, 1928 North Main Street, Pearland Registration is required. $15 admission. The event features prayer and breakfast.

Spring

7 a.m.-8 p.m. at Spring Baptist Church, 633 E. Louetta Road, Spring. www.springbaptist.org The event features prayer stations throughout the day for individual prayer as well as group prayer at the top of each hour.

The Woodlands

7 p.m. at New Haven House of Prayer, 6262 Creekside Green, The Woodlands. www.newhavenhop.com The event features a community prayer service with local officials and community leaders.

Tomball

Noon at the Tomball Historic Depot, 201 S. Elm St., Tomball The event features guest pastors from local churches and members of the Tomball VFW Post 2427.

Willis

Noon-1 p.m. at Willis Park, Hwy. 75 and Mink Street, Willis Grace International Church invites community members to join city leaders, school district officials and business leaders for a prayer event. Additional events can be found on the task force's website.
