In Magnolia, voters approved a proposition Saturday evening by the city to reauthorize a sales and use tax for maintenance and repair of municipal streets, according to unofficial results.

The proposition was approved by 90.2 percent of the voters, according to Montgomery County election results, with 21 of 22 election precincts reporting. Fifty-one voters turned out to the polls for the May 5 election with five voters casting a ballot in opposition to the tax proposition.

As voters approved the reauthorization, the city will continue to be able to collect a portion of funds from the 4B Community Development Corp. dedicated to road repair, City Administrator Paul Mendes previously said. This tax proposition is allowed by House Bill 445, which was approved by the Texas Legislature in 2001. Residents must vote for the tax proposition every few years to keep funding road repairs, Mendes said.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
