Several road projects are underway in the Woodlands area, including work on a direct connector on I-45 and final work on a Robinson Road realignment project. This list is not comprehensive.

Ongoing projects

1. I-45 improvements


Project: A direct connector from I-45 from Shenandoah Park Drive to Hwy. 242 will be built, including drainage improvements, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. The funding will be 80% federal and 20% state, according to TxDOT.

Update: The project will have 683 working days, according to TxDOT. As of the most recent information available June 3, 6% of the work had been completed.


Timeline: 2025-second quarter 2028

Cost: $42.63 million

2. Robinson Road realignment


Project: The project will align Robinson Road across Hanna Road. The project will include realigning a portion of the Union Pacific Railroad, which is crossed by Robinson Road.

Update: A new railroad crossing at Union Pacific Railroad crossing will be built as part of the realignment effort, but the existing crossing will still be passable until the new crossing is complete, officials said. Work on the crossing was performed in late May, with additional followup work underway to fully complete the project such as installing lights, officials said.

Timeline: February 2024-June

Cost: $7.42 million

3. David Memorial Drive extension

Project: A project to extend David Memorial Drive to Hwy. 242 began in September 2023 under the terms of an interlocal agreement between the city of Shenandoah and Montgomery County.

Update: The first phase of work is completed to the Conroe city limits, Bleyl said. Originally slated to be paid for by Conroe, the final portion of the project will now be funded by the Montgomery County road bond approved by voters May 3. The estimate needed to complete construction is $2.5 million, engineer John Bleyl said.


Timeline: September 2023-March (Phase 1), TBD (Phase 2)

4. Hwy. 242 widening


Project: TxDOT is using existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.

Update: As of the most recent information released by TxDOT on June 3, the project was 58% complete.

Timeline: Oct. 23, 2023-fourth quarter 2026

Cost: $29.11 million

5. FM 1488 median

Project: The project will build a median from Mostyn Drive to I-45.

Update: The project is 73% complete, as of the most recent update available from TxDOT.

6. Woodlands Parkway and Grogans Mill Road improvements

Project: The Woodlands Road Utility District and The Woodlands Township are collaborating on a $4.5 million enhancement project at the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Grogans Mill Road, which will include the installation of a sculpture commemorating the first 50 years of The Woodlands.

Update: The project will provide new landscaping across 8 acres of land surrounding the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Grogans Mill Road.
