1. Grogans Mill Road and Research Forest Drive westbound turn lane extension

Project: The project is extending acceleration and deceleration lanes at Research Forest Drive and Grogans Mill Road. Turn lane improvements earlier this year extended the westbound acceleration lane from southbound Grogans Mill to westbound Research Forest.

Update: Project engineer John Bleyl said Entergy utility pole relocation was completed to resume work for the deceleration lane at the intersection, and work on that phase would take about 60 days after commencing in November. The project is being managed by Montgomery County Precinct 2.

2. Grogans Mill Road and Research Forest Drive eastbound turn lane extension

Project:
Montgomery County Precinct 3 began a project in early November to extend the right-turn lane on eastbound Research Forest Drive turning onto southbound Grogans Mill Road, according to a news release. Bleyl said the project is separate from the Precinct 2 project at the westbound intersection.

Update: Work on the project was expected to be completed within a month, according to a news release from Precinct 3. A cost for the project was not immediately available. The right-turn lane will be extended several hundred feet with a short merge lane to alleviate congestion, according to the news release.

3. David Memorial Drive extension


Project:
A project to extend David Memorial Drive to Hwy. 242 began in September under the terms of an interlocal agreement between the city of Shenandoah and Montgomery County.

Update: The project is underway and the portion of the extension that will cross the Conroe city limits will be completed when funding is secured.

Timeline: September 2023-July 2024

Cost: $7.8 million

4. Hwy. 242 widening

Project:
TxDOT will use existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections. The project will also include construction of detention ponds.

Update: The project began Oct. 23 when barricades were set, according to TxDOT. The contractor will work on zones consisting of about three intersections at a time, beginning with an area from I-45 to West Campus Drive along the north side of Hwy. 242, according to TxDOT. As of Nov. 17, the first zone had been stripped of grass and excavation for the curb and gutter began.

5. Robinson Road realignment

Project:
The project bid to align Robinson Road across Hanna Road was awarded by Oak Ridge North on Oct. 9, and work could start in February, City Manager Heather Neeley said.

Update: On Nov. 13, Oak Ridge North City Council approved a $2 million estimate for work on realigning a portion of the Union Pacific Railroad as part of the project.

Timeline: February 2024-late 2024

6. Grogans Mill left-turn lane extension

Project:
Montgomery County Precinct 3 is working with contractor Teamwork Construction to extend the northbound Grogans Mill Road left-turn lane at North Millbend Drive.

Update: The project began in early October and was expected to be completed within several weeks, according to a Precinct 3 news release. It will provide additional turn-lane storage at the intersection to help reduce traffic congestion during peak hours, according to the release. Information on the cost of the project was not immediately available from Precinct 3.

7. Grogans Mill merge lane extension

Project:
A project extending the merge lane from the eastbound Woodlands Parkway exit road to southbound Grogans Mill Road was completed and reopened on Nov. 8, according to a Nov. 15 news release from Montgomery County Precinct 3.

Update: The project took two weeks, and it consisted of adding several hundred feet of lane pavement as the road merges onto southbound Grogans Mill, according to the release. A yield sign was replaced with a sign to merge left. The cost of the project was not immediately available from Precinct 3.
