Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley spoke to the Shenandoah City Council on Feb. 23 about the intersection of Research Forest Drive and Grogans Mill Road.

Riley said John Bleyl and Bleyl Engineering have been asked to redesign the right-turn lane at the intersection, which will be the first phase of development for the project.

“We are trying to make sure we are doing everything we can to get all of the traffic signals synced,” Riley said. “We do not want to make things worse. We are not giving up on this intersection.”

Discussions for the project began Oct. 21, 2021, when the matter was brought to The Woodlands board of directors. On Nov. 16, 2021, the office of Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack stated there were no plans for an overpass or underpass for the intersection.

Riley said the intent is to get started on the project as soon as possible, and his office is working with Noack’s office for their experience on traffic synchronization.

Bleyl said construction is anticipated to begin this summer.

“I want to make things better, and that is what we are going to do,” Riley said.
