A project to widen Birnham Woods Drive was approved to go out to bid during the Oct. 26 meeting of Montgomery County Commissioners Court, Precinct 3 Commissinoer James Noack announced.
The widening will take place between an area about 400 feet northwest of Waterbend Cove and an area 500 feet short of Rayford Road.
Nearby construction is ongoing in the area of Rayford Road and Birnham Woods Drive.
The area from Waterbend to Rayford will be widened from two lanes to four lanes with asphalt road and roadside ditches between Waterbend Cove and Trophy Ridge. Between Trophy Ridge and about 500 feet before Rayford it will be widened from two to four concrete lanes with curb and gutter, according to Precinct 3.
At the intersections of Birnham Woods and Waterbend with Lexington Boulevard, it will be expanded to five lanes on Birnham Woods to accommodate dedicated left-turn lanes.
The project will be awarded in November and it is expected to take about 14 months to complete, according to Precinct 3.
