From fostering pets to helping to stock food pantry shelves, here are a number of organizations seeking volunteers in The Woodlands area in 2025. This list is not comprehensive, and information is subject to change.

Animals

Operation Pets Alive

The all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit strives to elevate Montgomery County to a no-kill community through programs that raise community awareness, reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter shelters, and increase the number of pets that leave shelters alive.

Assistance League of Montgomery County

Assistance League’s all-volunteer nonprofit organization has been transforming the lives of children and adults in Montgomery County since 1985 through its seven community programs.

Sample activities: work in the thrift shop, assist with various community programs, serve as team leaders, administrative work, information technology, accounting/bookkeeping, marketing and social media


Donations accepted: Donations of gently used clothing and household items can be made at 126 N. San Jacinto St., Conroe. Monetary donations can be made on the website, in person, or by mail to the thrift shop location.Community Assistance Center

The Community Assistance Center offers a variety of essential assistance programs from basic need services to long-term case management for individuals and families. The nonprofit helps with things like food, clothing, non-narcotic prescriptions, utility, rent/mortgage and more.

Sample activities: stock food pantry; assist clients with food selection; sort, organize and price donations; administrative help; deliver senior groceries

The volunteer-driven organization provides and promotes affordable, high-quality mediation services and training to the Montgomery County area. They have been helping people with difficult conversations since 1988 so that they can resolve disputes quickly, confidentially, affordably and in a manner that supports the best interests of Montgomery County residents, especially children.

Sample activities: mediations, help with special events, office assistance and assist with youth programs

The nonprofit social service organization has volunteer opportunities for its activities, including a food pantry and resale shop. Most programs are for volunteers ages 16 and older, and bilingual volunteers are always needed.

The organization is dedicated to creating sustainable, high-quality solutions that support the educational, vocational, social and residential needs of the neurodiverse community. The Beacon Access Center, located in Oak Ridge North, serves individuals across Montgomery and North Harris County. It offers a supportive environment where neurodiverse adults can grow, connect, and thrive as vital members of the broader community.

Sample activities: store volunteers for pop-up events; fundraising event volunteers; Beacon Bridges Reverse Inclusion volunteer helping coordinate and teach various Beacon Bridges activities, classes and workshops

Children’s Books on Wheels

The nonprofit provides educational and community resources to the Tamina community and surrounding residents. Volunteers are needed for the organization’s tax assistance program, VITA, and other community activities.

Bayou Land Conservancy


Bayou Land Conservancy conserves over 15,000 acres from Bryan to Beaumont, focusing on key areas that impact the water supply, wildlife and flood control. Volunteers can work on trail maintenance, special events, join a committee or lead guided hikes for the community.

Sample activities: conduct guided hikes, trail maintenance, removing invasive species, and educational outreach, volunteer committees and events

Keep US Fed Montgomery County


The nonprofit has rescued and redistributed over 9 million pounds of surplus food at no cost to food-insecure neighbors since 2015, alleviating hunger and reducing food waste in the community. Over 4,500 tons of food been delivered thanks to volunteer efforts, nonprofit officials said. The typical food recovery run is 60-90 minutes.

The food bank receives, packages, and purposefully distributes nutritious food to hungry children, seniors, and families through a network of more than 90 partner agencies.

Sample activities: sort and package donated food; inspect and assemble rescued produce boxes; prepare weekend backpack meals for schoolchildren; assist with drive-thru and mobile food distributions; deliver groceries to low-income seniors; and support special events or community outreach initiatives

St. Luke’s Health-The Woodlands and Lakeside Hospitals


The hospitals welcome year-round volunteers Monday through Friday. Opportunities are available for those 18 and over, with junior volunteer opportunities during the summer for high school students.

Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County


The nonprofit builds safe, affordable homes and provides home repairs for local families. Volunteers must be at least 17 years old to serve at the ReStore, 16 or older with a parent to volunteer in construction, and 18 or older to participate in deconstruction activities.

Hands of Justice


Hands of Justice strives to provide economic empowerment to human trafficking survivors through awareness, outreach, scholarships, survivor-led and trauma-informed support groups, counseling, advocacy, and more.

Sample activities: planning and executing events such as the Annual Human Trafficking Collaborative Summit and Fashion for Freedom; assembling Freedom Bags, which are backpacks of items for survivors

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County provides homebound seniors across the county with hot, nutritious meals, friendly volunteer visits that double as safety checks, and dependable curb-to-curb transportation to essential appointments.

Sample activities: delivering weekday meals and Saturday breakfast bags; helping in the kitchen; Thanksgiving meal bag delivery and holiday gift delivery

The Montgomery County Women’s Center

The Montgomery County Women’s Center helps survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault by providing an emergency shelter, legal services, crisis intervention programs, a 24-hour hotline, case management and transitional housing.

Sample activities: cooking meals at the shelter, monitoring children during counseling, volunteering at the store with unloading and sorting clothes

Angel Reach


The nonprofit serves kinship families and youth aging out of the foster care system as well as young people ages 16-24 at risk for homelessness. The organization provides housing, counseling, transportation, employment coaching and educational advising.

Sample activities: volunteer at the front desk; help fix and serve food from the kitchen; help with lawn maintenance and duplex cleanings; help at Angel's Loft Resale shop; become a mentor or tutor for young adults in the program; teach life skills classes; assist with events and activities

The Champion Project

The nonprofit accepts volunteers for its program working with children and teens living in residential treatment centers and foster care group homes in Harris and Montgomery counties. Volunteer roles include group mentoring, tutoring or serving with the Book Bus, a mobile literacy program. Requirements to volunteer include an online application, training and an annual background check.

Sample activities: mentor a child or help establish a program in a new partner church; tutoring a child once per week, or spend a couple of hours on a Book Bus outing.

The organization empowers vulnerable children through volunteer advocacy. The vision of the nonprofit is to create a connected community where children and families thrive, people work to eliminate childhood trauma, abuse and neglect.
