Here are 4 things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands area.

  1. A proposal to provide an enrollment center location at The Woodlands Town Hall for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Global Entry program will be discussed by the township’s board of directors during a regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday. A meeting room at Town Hall would be reserved once or twice a month for the program, if approved. Although the economic effects are unknown, having an enrollment center in the community would attract hundreds of visitors to The Woodlands each month, according to the township. The program allows for expedited clearance for preapproved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the U.S.

  2. The Howard Hughes Corporation announced the name of its new community—The Woodlands Hills—on Monday morning during a press conference. The 2,000-acre community is located in the cities of Willis and Conroe between League Line Road and FM 1097 on the west side of I-45. The community will have a grand opening celebration in spring 2018.

  3. The city of Shenandoah on Wednesday will consider approving a resolution opposing a proposed Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District rate increase for 2018. The proposed LSGCD rate would increase from 0.075 cents per 1,000 gallons to 0.11 cents per 1,000 gallons, which is a 46 percent increase, according to the city. Shenandoah City Council meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the municipal complex.

  4. The Woodlands Township board of directors voted last week to move forward with Phase 2 of the cultural arts feasibility study to evaluate the viability of two project options: a proposed arts center and natural science museum. The science museum could feature exhibit, public, administrative and storage space as a satellite location of the Houston Museum of Natural Science or a similar partner. The arts center could include midsize and small performance and rehearsal spaces, a nonprofit gallery, exhibition and teaching spaces, digital media arts spaces and programs, and healing arts spaces and programs.
