Here are 4 things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands area.

1. The Woodlands Township will discuss the potential of implementing a proposed homestead exemption during its regular meeting Wednesday. If approved, the optional homestead exemption would provide additional property tax relief for all residents. If an exemption is approved, it must be done before July 1 to go into effect for the 2018 fiscal year, according to the state’s property tax code. For more details, click here.

2. Early voting begins today in Montgomery County for the May 6 elections. During early voting, which runs through May 2, voters can cast their ballot at any voting location within the county. On election day, there is one voting location for each municipality. For a complete list of voting locations, visit www.mctx.org/election.

3. Several bills related to The Woodlands’ incorporation planning efforts are moving through the state legislature. Senate Bills 1014 and 1015 were heard in committee in early April, and both will be voted on by the full Senate this week. The companion legislation in the House is pending in committee. If signed into law, the bills would expand the enabling legislation approved in 2007 that released The Woodlands from potential annexation by Houston and Conroe until 2057 and provide a legal path to incorporation.

4. Montgomery County Commissioners Court meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at 501 N. Thompson St., Conroe. The court will consider several items, including discussion of the 2018 fiscal year budget projections.
