Here are 6 things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands area.

1. Cordua Restaurants will open a new Churrascos location on The Woodlands Waterway this December, replacing Americas. Churrascos offers menu options, such as salads, tacos, chicken, steak, ribs and fresh fish as well as Sunday brunch and daily happy hour. Area residents who want to dine at Americas after December will have to visit the Houston location at 2040 W. Gray St.

2. The I-45 HOV lane expansion project has been delayed again until late October. The Texas Department of Transportation hopes to open the southbound lane by late October. When complete, the project will extend the HOV lane from FM 1960 to S. Loop 336 in Conroe.

3. The month of October marks the official start of Breast Cancer Awareness month. There are a number of events planned in The Woodlands area, including the Pamper Me Pink celebration from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands, featuring mini-makeovers and manicures, massages, refreshments and desserts. The event will be held in Medical Office Building 1, and guests can register at www.houstonmethodist.org/events.

4. Rowing, which has been part of the community for decades, is getting a boost in The Woodlands. The township’s board of directors approved a signage agreement last week with Woodforest National Bank for $500,000 to support the construction of a boathouse at Northshore Park. The board also approved lease agreements with The Rowing Club of The Woodlands and Parati Competitive Rowing for both clubs to use the new boathouse.

5. Options to get around Town Center during the upcoming holiday season are set to be expanded. The Woodlands Township will implement Phase 2 of the Town Center trolley system pilot program beginning Nov. 19 to serve as this year’s Holiday Shuttle Express program. The expanded services include adding a third trolley to run during peak hours.

6. Residents of Montgomery County have one week left to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election. The deadline to register, which can be done online, is Oct. 11. See the Oct. 13 edition of Community Impact Newspaper for a detailed election guide on state and local races.
