Christ Community School, a Christian academy located at 1488 Wellman Road, Shenandoah, will close this May after 24 years in operation. The school's board unanimously voted to close the school due to declining enrollment and the school building's mortgage, according to a statement from the academy.
“Closing the school was a very difficult decision for our leadership and our board that marks a difficult transition for all our families,” Principal Jessica Pierrel said in the statement. “We are all grateful for the 24 years God has allowed us to impact so many children and our community. But we understand that many of His gifts are for a season, and the numbers make it very clear that we do not have the funds to operate beyond this school year.”
The school will operate through the remainder of its 2019-2020 academic calendar, with classes and activities set to end May 21. The school enrolled around 100 students this year. 936-321-6300. www.christcommunityschool.org
