The city of Shenandoah will hold a May 3 election for three City Council positions, as approved by council members in a 5-0 vote at the Jan. 8 meeting.

What to know

The May election will be for terms for council positions 2, 3 and 4.

The current positions are held by the following:
  • Position 2: Joe Summerlin
  • Position 3: Jim Pollard
  • Position 4: Charlie Bradt
Summerlin was recently appointed Nov. 13 as council member for Position 2 after former council member Ted Fletcher resigned from his position, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Candidate filing will be held from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14. Individuals can file in person or by mail to 29955 I-45 N., Shenandoah, or via email to [email protected].

To run for city council, candidates must:
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have been a resident of Texas for one year prior to the filing deadline
  • Have resided in the city for at least six months prior to the filing deadline
  • Be a registered voter in the territory from which the office is elected by the filing deadline
  • Be 18 years of age or older upon the commencement of the term to be filled at the election
