Oak Ridge North City Council members approved moving forward on an effort to build a new sidewalk system through the city during the March 25 meeting.

What you need to know

City Council members approved contracting with The Goodman Corporation, an infrastructure and mobility engineering company, to provide proposals and potential funding opportunities for a new sidewalk system within the city.

The scope of the project according to documents from The Goodman Corporation includes acting as “the lead project manager and facilitator to build consensus on the project, develop an approach for advocacy, and build momentum towards implementation.”

City Manager Heather Neeley said the city has allocated $125,000 toward the project.

What else?

Funding for the project was budgeted by the city in 2023, with an additional $25,000 added from leftover budget funds. The Goodman Corporation did provide a schematic outline of the desired sidewalk layout as requested by the city, which would loop around Oak Ridge High School and surrounding neighborhoods.
