The outdoor adventure course Texas TreeVentures, which launched in The Woodlands Township in 2019, will see the beginning of its Phase 2 expansion in 2023.

The township’s board of directors budgeted $250,000 for the Phase 2 expansion of the project in 2023. The adventure course was launched with 69 course elements, which allow participants to traverse trees on a series of platforms, bridges and cables up to 40 feet in the air. The proposed expansion includes about $144,000 for 24 additional course elements, said Pamela Woods, assistant director for parks and recreation in the township. According to township materials, $105,000 would remain for an expanded deck and other new equipment.

The expansion will include 12 octagon transfer decks, 24 belay cables and 20 ground anchors, according to information presented at the meeting. The project will also include some movement of other elements within the course, Woods said. New second-level course elements will include nine new elements, and 15 are planned on the third level.

Construction on the project will be completed by Challenge Design Innovations on March 1 or around spring break, she said.

TreeVentures is a revenue-generating facility for the township, and it has seen a steady increase in participants since it opened, Woods said. It has three full-time staff and 12 part-time staff as well as some seasonal staff.

The township's board of directors approved the expansion 4-0 at the Oct. 26 meeting.
