Ann K. Snyder

Experience: chair, The Woodlands Township board of directors; past CEO, Interfaith of The Woodlands; past chair, Conroe ISD board of trustees; led spiritual, corporate/civic groups

Occupation: retired executive

What do you see as the biggest challenges facing The Woodlands in the next two years and beyond?

Security of our hometown is high priority. Enhancing public safety is [the] primary goal to protect our families, homes and businesses. The township must maintain the unique amenities that residents expect and enjoy. Revitalization of aging neighborhoods and village centers is vital to the upkeep of our No. 1 hometown.

What areas and amenities in the township should be focused on for growth over the next several years?

Our community thrives when residents feel safe. We must continue [our] high level of law enforcement. As our area grows, traffic solutions and “walkability” must address residents’ concerns and preserve our high quality of life. It is time to address revitalization of our village centers and a performing arts center.

How should the township prioritize its budget over the next two years?

Budget priorities must concentrate on maintaining a low tax rate at no new revenue, keeping our families secure with exceptional public safety, concentrating on reducing outstanding debt, and continuing to be fiscally conservative with the public trust and their funds.

How do you feel your experience will benefit you on the board?

Proven township board track record, fiscally conservative, historical knowledge, unique perspective dealing with people from all walks of life, decades serving The Woodlands, university educator, school district trustee, Interfaith executive and church ministry administrator have all afforded me great opportunities as a listener and leader.

What governmental relationships should the township focus on in the next two years?

Good leadership empowers good people to build relationships of mutual respect. This is the bedrock which [George] Mitchell and founding leaders developed. It is a foundational principle [the] current board [is] restoring. Relationships with valued county officials, state leaders and public safety agencies should be at the top of the township’s list.
