John Escoto has been elected as Shenandoah's new mayor, and incumbent Ron Raymaker has been re-elected to Shenandoah City Council Position 1.

Escoto, who has served on the Shenandoah City Council since May 2021, received 345 votes, or 57.3% of the total. Opposing candidate Esther Lum received 257 votes, or 42.7% of the total.

Escoto said he is thankful to the people of Shenandoah for voting for him.

"I look forward to serving them [and] serving the city," Escoto said. "I look forward to doing everything I can to keep Shenandoah great and moving in the right direction."


Escoto will take the seat of Ritch Wheeler, who served as Shenandoah's mayor for six years and chose not to seek reelection.

For the City Council, incumbent Ron Raymaker was re-elected with 310 votes, or 52.1% of the total against challenger Gary Henson, who received 285, or 47.9% of the votes.

Raymaker said he plans to continue work the City Council has been doing.

"That is all I care about is keeping our people in good shape," Raymaker said. "The people have spoken and it has been a good thing for us."

As polls closed May 7, Shenandoah mayoral candidate John Escoto and Shenandoah City Council incumbent Ron Raymaker have taken early leads against their opponents.


Early voting results give Escoto a total of 223 votes, or 63.7% of the total so far, against opponent Esther Lum, who has received 127 early votes, or 36.3%. Both candidates are running for the position after current Mayor Ritch Wheeler declined to seek re-election.

For the Shenandoah City Council race, Raymaker has received 206 votes, or 59.4% of the total against opponent Gary Henson, who has received 40.6% for the City Council Position 1 seat. Shenandoah City Council Member Michael McLeod is running unopposed for Position 5.
