A closer look
District officials said the new school, which is scheduled to open in August, is TISD’s fourth intermediate school and will serve fifth and sixth graders.
The finished building is equipped with a new library, gym, cafeteria and collaborative rooms along with a courtyard and rooms dedicated to fine arts. Since the building itself is finished, district officials said they will focus on moving supplies in to be ready for the upcoming school year in August.
“My parents are retired educators and they both made sure to remind me how lucky I am to have this opportunity because it doesn't come very often,” West Intermediate School Principal Caitlin Cain said. “We're excited to be in the building.”
How we got here
West Intermediate School is a part of the $494.46 million bond package approved by TISD voters in 2021. The bond package also included a high school and an elementary school—both of which are also located on the same property as West Intermediate, Community Impact previously reported.
West Elementary School opened in the fall of 2024 and TISD plans to open West High School in August 2026, officials said
“I'm grateful to the Tomball community for understanding that with opportunities and bond dollars we're able to do something such as this beautiful facility,” TISD Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said.
Quote of note
“As we open these doors, let us envision a future that's filled with curiosity, creativity and collaboration,” TISD board President Michael Pratt said.
