Lone Star College System celebrated the opening of its newest campus in Creekside Village on Jan. 19.

The new 85,000-square-foot campus, Lone Star College-Creekside, officially opened in December and is located at 8747 West New Harmony Trail, Tomball. LSC-Tomball president Lee Ann Nutt said the new facility is one to be proud of while addressing the audience at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“As president of LSC-Tomball, I speak on behalf of all of us when I say we are so proud to be the stewards of this absolutely incredible facility,” Nutt said. “We’re excited about the opportunities that this will allow us to provide for our community, this area and students.”

The new campus design features include many desks and study booths located throughout the facility with built-in chargers for electronics. A section along the stairs to the second floor features a sitting section with built-in chargers as well.

LSCS chancellor Steve Head said the construction of the new campus sets the standard for other facilities to come in the future.

“Those of you involved with construction know how much work it takes to do this,” Head said. “It’s a lot of work that goes into this. At the end of the day this building is setting a benchmark. This is going to be setting the standard for the kind of facilities we’re building.”

Besides expressing their support for the construction and design of LSC-Creekside, college officials at the ribbon-cutting ceremony also said they hope the college will act as an educational pathway for students in the area.

Linda Good, chairwoman of the LSCS board of trustees, said because community colleges such as LSCS are able to provide unique education options to students, the idea of community college is shaping the future of higher education.

“We provide the best value for educational dollars,” Good said. “Community colleges in general and LSCS in particular are most responsive to employers with jobs to give. With this new facility, local residents now have an even closer option, with less freeway time into Houston, for higher-quality education.”

LSC-Creekside offers transferrable courses for associate of art and associate of science degrees and features courses in business management, electrical technology and international studies.

Students can also earn a petroleum data technology certificate as well as complete health occupation prerequisites.
