Whiskey bar and eatery Bosscat Kitchen & Libations was brought to The Woodlands by CEO John Reed in February 2023. The whiskey bar originated in California in 2014 and has locations in California and Houston.

The Houston locations can be found in South Houston as well as Market Street.

“We were one of the first whiskey bars to open in Southern California," Reed said. "We had a passion for whiskey, and we had a passion for good American food, and we found the right chef to partner with to marry the two."

What’s special about it?

Bosscat Kitchen & Libations was founded by Reed alongside his business partner and events manager Jennifer Moore in 2014.

Known for its extensive whiskey selection, the whiskey bar shifted from a bar to a brunch destination with an American cuisine menu and whiskey stash.

“Brunch is really what people are starting to know us for,” Reed said.

Reed said Bosscat Kitchen & Libations was initially only serving brunch on the weekends; however, due to its popularity, the eatery will be serving brunch daily beginning in April.

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere

With about 300-350 whiskey, bourbon and scotch options, Bosscat Kitchen & Libations offers an extensive selection of whiskey from around the world, including unique selections not found in local liquor stores.

Some popular whiskey options include whiskey from Kentucky as well as Japan. With national and international whiskey options, Bosscat Kitchen & Libations offers happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m.

The bar and restaurant also hosts private events for the community as well as local organizations. Some organizations Bosscat Kitchen & Libations has partnered with include the American Heart Association, Meals on Wheels and Mosaics of Mercy.

Must-try menu items

While Bosscat Kitchen & Libations specializes in American comfort food, the eatery also focuses on incorporating international flavors.

“Our corporate chef and my business partner have a heavy Vietnamese influence. So we've married some other flavors into our American cuisine,” Reed said.

Popular menu items include the chimichurri steak sandwich, JT Bowl and New Orleans-style beignets topped with powdered sugar and chocolate mocha coffee sauce.

The restaurant is also known for its 12-hour beef short rib, cooked slowly and topped with black pepper sweet sauce.

The eatery's brunch menu features savory, sweet and healthy options as well as mimosas and signature cocktails. Some brunch favorites include the short rib chilaquiles, Smokehouse Benedict, Fruity Pebbles French Toast and country-fried steak, Reed said.
