The new Cajun-American concept from owner Jeff McGhee opened in late August at 4130 FM 1488, Ste. 102, Conroe. Its New Orleans-inspired menu includes po'boys, seafood plates and boudin-based dishes as well as bread pudding and beignets. 936-539-8597. www.kitchen1488.com

Now open: Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar

The Republic Grille opened its third restaurant in The Woodlands area in mid-September at 3486 Discovery Creek Blvd., Spring. The Southern-style Texas eatery is now serving appetizers, salads, pastas and sandwiches in addition to signature dishes, such as chicken fried steak and shrimp and grits. The breakfast and barbecue joint launched its expanded whiskey bar at 2626 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands in early September.
