Among projects underway in The Woodlands area, renovations on a Telsa location are progressing toward a 2024 finish, and Bear Branch Park will see playground construction and other improvements as part of a township parks project.

1. Tesla

Tesla is opening a sales, service and delivery location at 9420 College Park Drive, The Woodlands, replacing the former grocery store, Randalls, that was previously located in Windvale Center. The 63,861-square-foot space is undergoing a $3.5 million renovation, according to previous Community Impact reporting, and it is expected to be complete by the end of 2024, Tesla officials said Feb. 22. Work on the project began last July.

2. Bear Branch Park

Renovations for Bear Branch Park are underway, with $1.5 million allocated from the township's 2022 Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment Funds, according to Chris Nunes, chief operating officer in The Woodlands Township, and John McGowan, director of the Woodlands Parks and Recreation Department.

The details

McGowan and Nunes were scheduled to present a proposal to the township for restroom area renovation and a construction of a playground at Bear Branch Sportsfields on Feb 22. The 30-acre park is located at 5200 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands.

Other additions to the park include a batting cage and more parking space, McGowan and Nunes said.

The breakdown

Out of the $1.5 million allocated, $652,793 has been spent, with $632,240 slated for a restroom and $20,553 for site planning.

Proposed additional spending includes $138,805 for construction management and $295,962 for a playground, totaling $1.09 million if approved, leaving $412,440 for remaining project needs, such as demolition and utilities.
