The YMCA of Greater Houston began construction on Phase 2 of the Holcomb Family YMCA in May at 5201 Imperial Promenade Drive, Spring, with an estimated completion date of January 2024, according to a June 9 news release from the YMCA.

The project will include construction of an aquatics center with an eight-lane pool and two additional teaching lanes, according to the release. Phase 2 will also include a prayer wall and restroom at the facility. The Holcomb Family YMCA is located on the 100-acre Lake Holcomb on Imperial Promenade Drive in the Falls at Imperial Oaks Development, located near the Grand Parkway.

“We are incredibly excited to expand services with our new aquatics center," Chris Butsch, the district executive director for the YMCA of Greater Houston, said in the news release. "We believe this addition will add another element for us to bring families and individuals together. The Holcomb YMCA has become a gathering place for individuals and families from all backgrounds, perspectives and generations. As with Phase 1 of our project, we hope to continue our welcoming and innovative spirit with unique designs and programs.”

According to the news release, the aquatics center will provide more opportunities for children to take swim lessons and learn safety, and adults will also be able to use the pool for recreational swimming and exercise.

Phase 1 of the Holcomb Family YMCA was completed in December 2021 and featured a 12,000-square-foot pavilion with turf as well as facilities for basketball, pickleball and other sports. The center also includes an outdoor fitness center, multipurpose sports fields and a shipping container village for other YMCA programs. The expansion was a result of a donation from Jim Holcomb, Dick Weekley and David Weekley, according to the release.
