The candidate-filing period for a place on the May 5 municipal ballot closed Feb. 16. As of Feb. 19, two races in Shenandoah remain unopposed, while the race for the position of mayor has two candidates, according to city officials.
Mayor M. Ritchey “Ritch” Wheeler filed for re-election and will be facing challenger and former Council Member Gary Henson.
Positions 1 and 5, held by council members Ron Raymaker and Michael “Mike” McLeod, respectively, are also up for election this year; however, both races remain uncontested. Both incumbents filed for re-election.
Although the formal filing deadline closed Friday, candidates can write-in candidate names until Feb. 20 and candidates may withdraw from the ballot through Feb. 23.
The last day to register to vote for the May 5 election is April 5, with the early voting period running April 23-May 1. The last day to apply for ballot by mail is April 24.
