The Woodlands Township will host a public meeting Dec. 1 regarding the master plan for Bear Branch Park.

In August, the township’s board of directors approved a request for proposals to update the 24-year-old park's master plan.

One reason for updating the master plan involves a proposal for a 50-meter Olympic pool to be located at the park. The park’s existing pool was damaged during this spring’s historic rainfall conditions.

During budget workshops in August, the board of directors discussed the pool proposal, which is estimated at $6.8 million. However, there were a number of issues, such as concerns about parking space and a balance between recreation and competitive uses.

Bear Branch Park features a number of amenities, such as a skate park, tennis courts, a dog park, a pavilion, a recreation center and a playground. Part of the updated conceptual plans will be based on input from various upcoming meeting opportunities.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at The Woodlands Township Recreation Center, 5310 Research Forest Drive.
