The $250,000 project began in late August and, as of Sept. 27, the additional right- and left-turn lanes on Branch Crossing and on Terramont Drive were complete with lane striping. The traffic signal construction is expected to begin this week and should take approximately 45-60 days to complete, weather permitting.

“Due to an increased demand at the intersection, a traffic signal was warranted for installation,” said Charles Cobb, Precinct 3 traffic operation manager. “Montgomery County will construct and maintain the traffic signal at this location. For the signal to operate optimally, pavement improvements were needed at the intersection.”

In addition to new lanes, the traffic signal will also include the installation of a new flashing yellow arrow. Montgomery County incurred significant cost savings on the project due to Precinct 3 crews completing the majority of the work, Cobb said.

“The goal of this project was to reduce congestion and delays for motorists at this intersection,” Cobb said. “The new traffic signal will also be a safer operation for motorists. Reducing congestion and delays while enhancing safety for motorists will always remain a priority of this office.”

The project is expected to be completed by late November. For more information about Precinct 3 transportation projects, visit www.precinct3.org/projects.
