“Coffee is such a community-focused business,” Brockus said. “Whenever you are intentional about your products, you can boost their immune system while they have their daily ritual of coffee.”
Brockus said she includes locally sourced ingredients such as lion’s mane mushrooms from Lone Star Mushrooms in Tomball in some blends. Brockus said the shop also emphasizes sustainability, and she hopes to educate the community on the topic.
In an effort to bring sustainability to Artisan Culture, Brockus said she makes efforts such as using an electric roasting machine, which gives off no emissions and is able to compost the beans.
“I even have self-serve buckets you can take from here to get started on that [composting] program,” Brockus said. Artisan Culture is also planning for potential future needs such as providing racks with charging stations for e-bikes. Once the bike racks are built, Brockus said she plans to offer discounts on coffee for customers who use them.
“I have always been into sustainability; I am just merging it with coffee,” Brockus said. “You have to put a lot of decisions into the products you get. ... If you are thoughtful about it, you can have a minimal impact on the environment and have high-quality products without cutting corners.”
Brockus said she has plans in place for her business to reduce waste, including keeping single-use items to a minimum, offering recycled products and having paperless options for receipts.
Brockus said among the ideas she is working on with her business partner, Enrique Macias, are to continue promoting sustainable practices by adding charging stations for larger electric vehicles.
To enhance the look of the coffee shop, Brockus said she plans to add a life-size statue of Nikola Tesla commissioned by local sculptor Lori Betz. Brockus said she wants to continue collaborating with and supporting other local businesses.
“I feel the more we work together, the bigger we can do greater things,” she said. “I want to give people the opportunity to channel their inner entrepreneurship. ... We have all types of interesting entrepreneurs in all fields. We are all about empowerment.”
