The Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market, celebrating its 40th year and previously scheduled for Nov. 11-15 at NRG Center, has been canceled, organizers announced Sept. 16, citing health concerns over COVID-19.
Instead, the 2020 Virtual Nutcracker Market will launch Nov. 11 for early bird sales, then Nov. 12 for all shoppers.

Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Que announces opening date in Conroe
Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Que will open its seventh store in the Greater Houston area Sept. 11, debuting in Conroe, according to a press release. The eatery, located at 14545 Hwy. 105 W., Conroe, will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and large group meals daily. Breakfast tacos will be served until 10 a.m.

Trustees plan to address racial inequality in Cy-Fair ISD
National protests called for the examination of practices within police departments to identify signs of racial inequality across the United States following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.
This movement had local officials, including the Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees, asking similar questions. In June, trustees John Ogletree, Julie Hinaman and Gilbert Sarabia were tasked with writing a resolution condemning racism, which was signed when trustees convened at the Sept. 14 meeting.

River Oaks Chamber Orchestra set to launch new season with 'Starburst'
The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra launches its 16th season, themed “Color and Light,” on Sept. 26, the organization announced.
"Starburst," its first concert, will be a livestreamed performance based at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion without an in-person audience.

Jim Cossette plans to open a 1000 Degrees Pizza, Salad, Wings location in mid-November in the Katy area at 1922 Greenhouse Road, Ste. 800, Houston. At 1000 Degrees Pizza, Salad, Wings, customers can build their own Neapolitan pizza with various meats, vegetables, cheeses and sauces.

El Tiempo Cantina to open in Kingwood
El Tiempo Cantina will soon open a new location at 1414 Northpark Drive, Kingwood, in the Centre at Northpark development. Operator Rigo Luna, who used to work at Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant in Kingwood, said he hopes to open the restaurant by the end of September.

Checkers opens its Pearland location
Checkers opened Sept. 1 at 7305 W. Broadway St., Pearland. The fast-food chain restaurant serves burgers, fries, shakes, hot dogs and chicken wings, and it only offers drive-thru services.

The Republic Grille opens third location in Spring
The Republic Grille announced it recently opened its third location at 3486 Discovery Creek Blvd., Spring.
According to a Sept. 22 press release, the new location is near the intersection of Grand Parkway and Rayford Road in the Harmony Commons development.

Missouri City amends street-naming policies
Missouri City residents will now be able to more easily apply with the city to change an existing street name, following recent action by City Council.
