The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion has purchased and donated 102 arts-related books to celebrate its namesake’s 102nd birthday, the nonprofit announced in a Sept. 25 news release.

What to know

In recognition of Mitchell’s love for both the arts and literacy, the Pavilion donated the books to Little Free Libraries around the community as well as to The Woodlands Children’s Museum, Boni’s Dance and Performing Arts Studio and Market Street.

Each donated book focuses on an aspect of the performing arts and features a special nameplate inside the front cover to commemorate the occasion, according to the release.

What they're saying

“Cynthia Woods Mitchell was an avid supporter of the arts and education,” said Jeff Young, president and CEO of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. “We are thrilled to be making this donation to the community as a tribute to her legacy. Mrs. Mitchell believed deeply that all people, regardless of circumstance, should have access to the arts and education—two things that she loved dearly.”
