As of 5 p.m. Thursday, crews had extinguished a fire at Victory Sports Center in New Territory, according to the city of Sugar Land. The Sugar Land Fire Department responded to a call of a major fire at 1:53 p.m., which broke out at the 21,000-square-foot facility, located at 750 Sartartia Road, Sugar Land. The building was engulfed in flames when crews arrived but Pat Pollicoff, the city's director of communications, said the building was unoccupied and that no injuries were reported. Victory Sports Center is within Sugar Land's extraterritorial jurisdiction. "There is no water source nearby so we had to a run a pretty extensive hose line to the nearest water line," said Doug Adolph, assistant director of communications for the city. He said the hose line crossed several roads, causing road closures. Crews had the blaze controlled by about 4:15 p.m. The fire's cause was unknown but Adolph said the Fort Bend County Fire Marshall would conduct an investigation. Adolph said eight agencies responded to the fire including crews from Missouri City, Houston, Stafford, Richmond and Needville. "It's a total loss," he said. "The inside is completely burned." Victory Sports offers classes in competitive cheerleading, floor gymnastics, tumbling, hip hop dance, and other sports.  It also has a fitness center with 43 pieces of premium health-club quality equipment, according to its website. People posted messages of condolence on the gym's cheer and dance Facebook page. Practices are cancelled until further notice, the page said as of 2:32 p.m.
