The city of Sugar Land is set to host eight days of watch parties during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is coming to Houston this summer.

At a Feb. 24 meeting, Sugar Land City Council voted 6-1 to approve an $880,000 agreement with Rebees Management Company to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup watch parties at Sugar Land Town Square. At-large council member Robert Boettcher was the dissenting vote, citing high costs and inefficient spending.
The agreement comes after City Council voted 6-1 to allow Visit Sugar Land to pursue a $2.5 million sponsorship with the Houston 2026 World Cup Host Committee in September, Community Impact reported.
Council also approved a sub-sponsorship agreement with Fort Bend County for tourism and economic development efforts.
The details
Sugar Land Town Square will host 10 World Cup watch parties with soccer-themed entertainment over eight event days, showing matches including:
- Mexico vs. South Africa on June 11 at 2 p.m.
- United States vs. Paraguay on June 12 at 8 p.m.
- Brazil vs. Morocco on June 13 at 5 p.m.
- Ghana vs. Panama on June 17 at 6 p.m.
- United States vs. Australia on June 19 at 2 p.m.
- Brazil vs. Haiti on June 19 at 8 p.m.
- Colombia vs. Portugal on June 27 at 6 p.m.
- Round of 16 game on July 4 at 12 p.m.
- Round of 16 game on July 4 at 3 p.m.
- World Cup Final on July 19 at 2 p.m.
The city has set several goals for the sponsorship, including increasing brand and destination awareness, generating hotel occupancy tax funds and sales tax, promoting community engagement, and activating its airport, Assistant Director of Tourism Alison Brooks said.
“Watch parties were identified early on as an anchor of our World Cup tourism strategy because they directly support many of these goals,” she said.
The cost
Brooks said the city is working on engaging with business and community partners to help pay for the event.
The city will pull $400,000 from its hotel occupancy tax fund and $480,000 from the special event fund. A total of $1 million was budgeted for FIFA-related events, Brooks said.

In addition to watch parties, Brooks said the city will also host several other initiatives for exposure throughout the month of the World Cup, including:
- Two days of youth soccer clinics at Constellation Field
- Pop-up soccer events at city parks
- Expansion of the volunteer program
- Space Cowboys soccer week
- Branded arrival experience at Sugar Land Regional Airport
- Events and outreach through public art contests, community surveys and FIFA programming
Other attractions, including the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land and the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center, are preparing World Cup-themed programming for visitors, Brooks said.
The city also launched a planning portal Dec. 8 to give fans a resource to explore events across the city during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

More details on events will be announced in March as the city kicks off World Cup programming, Brooks said.
Seven total matches will be played in Houston, including five group stages and two knockout-round games between June 14 and July 9.
