The Missouri City Police Department will no longer see a change in leadership in 2025.

What’s happening?

Missouri City Police Chief Brandon Harris will continue his role despite a Sept. 13 retirement announcement, city officials announced in a Dec. 20 news release. He was initially set to retire this January, Community Impact reported.

The news comes after the city extended an offer to one of four finalists, who ultimately decided to remain with their current agency after receiving a promotion and counteroffer, according to the release.

Harris joined the Missouri City Police Department in 1996, was promoted to corporal in 1998 and has held supervisory roles in every division of the police department, Community Impact reported.

He took the helm as chief in January after former Police Chief Mike Berezin retired in May 2022.

“Chief Harris has been an integral part of Missouri City’s transformation into one of the fastest-growing and most vibrant communities in Fort Bend County,” City Manager Angel Jones said in the release. “His participatory leadership, dedication to public safety and ability to inspire his team have been instrumental in the department’s progress.”

In their own words

“I am honored to continue serving the community I care deeply about and to lead the outstanding men and women of the Missouri City Police Department,” Harris said in the release. “Together, we will continue to build on the department’s strong foundation and ensure the safety and well-being of every resident.”

Going forward

Harris is set to continue to lead the department for the next three to five years, Jones said in the release.
