Meyers is a 27-year official in the position, having served as commissioner since 1996, according to the county website. A former certified public accountant by trade, Meyers said in a questionnaire with Community Impact that he would prioritize infrastructure, such as road repairs and replacement, and economic development if re-elected.
Patel, a local business owner, is the former chief of staff for county Judge KP George who also served as Texas House legislative director and was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as deputy White House liaison, according to his Q&A with Community Impact. If elected, he said he would prioritize reducing toll road fees and tax rates while targeting more jobs.
Remember this?
This comes after Patel secured his bid in the March Democratic primary against four other candidates. In June, Patel was arrested on allegations of online impersonation and misinterpretation of identity. He's since been indicted on the charges as well as a harassment charge, according to arrest records.
Patel is set for a non-issue hearing on Nov. 12, according to court records.
At the polls
In the 12 days of early voting Oct. 21-Nov. 1, 297,649 voters—representing over 53% of registered voters—cast their ballots in Fort Bend County. This falls short of the 62% of voters who cast ballots in the last presidential election in November 2020, which had a longer early voting period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Texas Secretary of State office’s website.
The polls closed at 7 p.m., but voters who were in line before closing will still be able to cast their ballots, per state law.
