Throughout 2024, Community Impact spoke with owners and managers of seven local restaurants to be featured in our monthly editions. Here’s a look back at the Sugar Land, Missouri City and Stafford eateries we featured.

1. Halal eatery Q’s Deli pays homage to family legacy in Sugar Land

Q's Deli owner Muhammad Ali Qureshi said he learned perseverance and hard work from his father, who immigrated to Houston from Pakistan in 1982.

In 1987, the year Qureshi was born, his father took ownership of a deli shop in the Sharpstown area. His father would go on to open a deli inside an office building for many years, but the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered the office and shop, Qureshi said. Read more of the feature here.2. The menu, the plating, the layout, the decor, even the name of Elite Indo Pak restaurant in Sugar Land are meant to signify luxury, owner and businessperson Tjaddin Momin said.


Momin said he began his entrepreneurship in the '90s with the opening of a gas station. He also has ventures and connections in real estate—which led to the opening of the restaurant in February 2022. Read more of the feature here.

3. Filli Cafe in Sugar Land aims to unite cultures, promote homey ambience

The Sugar Land location of popular Dubai-based franchise Filli Cafe was the first to open in the United States.

Ahti Hussain, who co-owns the Texas-based licensing for operations of the fast-casual restaurant, said his goal is to unite cultures from around the globe and further popularize the concept of a morning tea. Read more of the feature here. 4. Last Berryhill Baja Grill survives in Sugar Land with community’s support

Berryhill Baja Grill co-owners Wendy Brooks and her son, Cole Brooks, said community support and adaptability have been essential to overcoming personal tragedy and business challenges.


Their husband and father, Jeff Brooks, died last June. Additionally, all 15 other restaurant locations have permanently shuttered since 2020, including the River Oaks flagship as recently as January. But the last location in Sugar Land remains. Read more of the feature here.

5. Missouri City's Bamboo Spice gained loyalty through pandemic, severe storms

Bamboo Spice owner Jennie Chang said she persevered through unprecedented challenges by remaining dedicated to quality of service.

Chang said she packaged to-go meals herself when the COVID-19 pandemic required social distancing and limited staffing at her Missouri City restaurant. During Winter Storm Uri in February 2021, she and her husband drove around to pick up their chef, manager and kitchen staff when they were unable to travel through the snow, she said. Read more of the feature here. 6. Ramble Creek Grill Riverstone brings home-cooked meals to Missouri City

When Kyle Harris and his family opened the Ramble Creek Grill Riverstone location in November 2022, they aimed to bring good, home-cooked food to the community they grew up in.


“[My dad] was a carpenter, but he cooked every single meal growing up at the house,” Harris said. “Food has always [meant] love in my family. So we always wanted the opportunity to share that with everybody else.”

7. B.B. Italia Bistro & Bar highlights authentic Italian ingredients

Bruno Amato, executive chef at B.B. Italia Bistro & Bar, calls the kitchen his “second skin.”

He joined the Sugar Land eatery in May 2023, he said, bringing his own classic Italian recipes to the menu. The eatery, which opened in November 2022, is a concept from Texas-based Berg Hospitality Group. Read more of the feature here.
