Beginning in the fall, Texas State Technical College will offer an online advanced technical certificate in cloud computing, according to a TSTC press release.

Students currently enrolled in TSTC's Associate of Applied Science degree in computer networking and systems administration will be able to move into the new cloud computing program, the release said.

The self-paced program can be completed in one semester and will follow Amazon Web Services' curriculum, said Renee Blackshear, an instructor in TSTC's computer networking and systems administration program, in the release.

“It is still the high quality we have always offered, just streamlined and more of a checklist,” Blackshear said in the release. “Once the students complete competencies and master those, they keep moving forward and get done and out in the workforce.”

The July 26 release said more than 400 full-time jobs related to cloud computing were posted on Indeed.com in the past two weeks, signaling the demand for this program.

“People want cloud-proficient graduates now,” Blackshear said. “The sooner they can get in and get going and graduate, the better. The market wants them, and they are paying high dollars for them.”

Enrollment for the upcoming fall semester is open at www.tstc.edu. TSTC's Fort Bend County campus is located at 26706 Hwy. 59, Rosenberg.
