Nominations must be completed using an online form. Anyone who makes a nomination must submit a written one- to two-paragraph statement, not to exceed 250 words, containing biographical information or historical data and reasons justifying the suggested name.

Additional criteria states that a nominated name should generally be alluding to a significant person or place. A person nominated should have local or national prominence for making a significant contribution to society. A nominated place should include historical relevance, according to a release from the district.

Once the window to submit nominations has closed, a naming committee will be formed to consider the nominations prior to a recommendation to the board of trustees.
