Zash Cafe, an Indo-Pakistani street food restaurant, opened mid-December at 2887 Dulles Ave., Missouri City, owner Rafiya Malek said.

Rafiya said she runs the restaurant with her mother, Yasmin Malek, who cooks the traditional Indo-Pakistani cuisine. Before opening the eatery, Rafiya worked at a local bakery for seven years before she decided she wanted to be her own boss.

"I just wanted to do something on my own," she said. "Then I talked to my mother and ... she knows all the traditional recipes and all. So she helped me."

All menu items are 100% halal, Rafiya said, and it includes sandwiches, such as chicken shawarma and beef and chicken gyro, as well as vegetarian sandwiches. It also serves burgers and various chaat, which is a savory snack. 281-969-7725. https://zashcafe.com
