After nearly two decades of sitting empty, the Tang City Plaza development is getting a new life.
The 9.4-acre development was constructed in the 1980s to provide shops and a restaurant in Missouri City off of Hwy. 90 near Cravens Road.
Property owner and former Houston Rocket Hakeem Olajuwon purchased Tang City Plaza in 2000 with plans to build a mosque, private school, library and gardens, according to Community Impact Newspaper reports.
Those plans never became reality; however, on July 10, the Missouri City Planning and Zoning Commission positively moved forward a new request by Olajuwon to develop an office and warehouse business center with commercial and retail uses dubbed “Dream Court.”
“This is a good example of the reuse of a property,” Missouri City Planning Manager Jennifer Thomas Gomez said to the commission.
No buildings sit on the development—just slab and foundation. Olajuwon aims to use the former building footprints and pavement for Dream Court, according to city documents.
Plans call for 19,800 square feet of retail and six buildings for office or warehouse uses.
The development will go in front of Missouri City City Council at a future meeting.
