Fluor Corp., a prominent construction company in the Lake Pointe area, announced its relocation from Sugar Land to the Energy Corridor. After four decades, the corporation will bid farewell its longheld 1 Fluor Daniel Drive location.

What's happening

Fluor announced in May that the company intends to relocate over 1,600 employees to a 13-story building in the Energy Corridor before the end of summer 2024, according to a news release from Granite Properties.

The company has over “40,000 employees globally supporting clients in more than 60 countries and has occupied the office complex at Lake Pointe Plaza in Sugar Land since the 1980s,” according to the release.

Fluor signed a 12-year lease agreement with Granite Properties for the modern Three Eldridge building on North Eldridge Parkway. Spanning 308,186 square feet, the building will serve as Fluor's new Houston-area headquarters.

The Three Eldridge campus features The Yard, an outdoor covered workspace with ample seating options; Wi-Fi; a cafe; and a separate corporate training center.

The impact

Efforts by Sugar Land city officials to retain Fluor Corp. were unsuccessful despite collaborative discussions for a new campus near the Smart Financial Centre. The future of the 1 Fluor Drive building is now uncertain with current lessees, including the Fort Bend Economic Development Council, facing an unknown future.

This move not only marks a significant shift for Fluor, but it also affects the business landscape of Sugar Land by taking over 1,600 employees out of the city.
